Venue Profile
Dating back to 1973, a time when Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood was home to White, working-class Southern transplants, Carol’s Pub is perhaps the city’s only remaining honky-tonk. Appropriately gritty and comfortably well-worn, Carol’s boasts a beautifully derelict U-shaped bar, a battered pool table, a jukebox stocked with classic country and western (with a few concessions to modern country) and a small stage that features house band Diamondback on weekends and drunken karaoke enthusiasts every Thursday. A top spot for people watching, Carol’s may be the only place in town where pensioners and punks belly up to the bar with Mexican immigrants and NASCAR fanatics.
